Tofu Sapo Recipe


  • 1 Japanese tofu
  • 3 pieces of pak choy
  • 4 pieces of chicory
  • 1 carrot
  • 150 gr peeled prawns
  • 150 ml of water
  • 50 ml water + 1 tsp cornstarch
  • 1 leek
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 1/2 onion
  • 3 pieces of red curly chili
  • 1/4 tsp pepper powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil

How to make tofu sapo

  • Cut the onions, pakcoy, chicory along with the stems
  • Thinly sliced ​​peeled carrots
  • Slice the scallions and curly chilies
  • Finely chop the garlic
  • Cut Japanese tofu into rounds, then fry them in heated oil. Turn it over so that all sides are cooked. Remove and drain when it starts to turn yellow
  • After that, saute the garlic until it smells good. Add sliced ​​chilies and onions, stir.
  • Add the peeled prawns, stir until they start to turn brown.
  • Then, add the sliced ​​carrots and scallions to the pan. Saute until the vegetables are wilted.
  • Add the pakcoy and chicory, continue to stir fry until all the vegetables are wilted.
  • After wilting, add water slowly, while stirring, add ground pepper, oyster sauce, soy sauce, and sesame oil. Stir until evenly mixed.
  • Then, add the fried Japanese tofu. Stir gently so the tofu doesn’t crumble.
  • After that, add the diluted cornstarch. Then stir until the sauce thickens slightly.
  • Once it boils and thickens, turn off the heat. Sapo tofu is ready to be served.
  • Sapo tofu is best eaten while the sauce is still boiling. To be more perfect, you can serve tofu sapo using a hotpot or a heat-resistant pottery bowl.
